STUDENTS have entertained sell-out audiences with their own version of a popular musical.

Pupils at The King’s Academy, in Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough, staged their own rendition of the 1970s musical Godspell.

The famous series of parables was enacted through song, dance, comedy and mime, with Jesus revealing how he would save mankind, if he lived in Middlesbrough today.

Inspiration was taken from a variety of television shows, from The X Factor and the Jeremy Kyle Show to children’s favourite Balamory.

70 students were involved in the production, which ran over four nights.

The cast included Lewis De Andrade as Jesus, Daniel Jones as John and David Geddes as Judas.

Show director and choreographer June Walker, said: "The students were absolutely fantastic. They were aged from 11 through to 18 and worked superbly well together, receiving standing ovations for their performances.

"It was a very ambitious production, but they pulled it off excellently and were a credit to the Academy."
