A NEW local history course is to put the spotlight on a part of Durham City.

The five-week course for adults starts at Durham County Council’s Clayport Library on Monday, April 20 week and looks at Gilesgate.

It is one of a series of local history courses which have studied the history of different parts of Durham including Elvet, Crossgate and Framwellgate.

Tutor, Dr Dorothy Hamilton, said: "The courses are an opportunity for adults to find out about different aspects of Durham's history, and learn how to do a small piece of local history research for themselves."

Further details about the course, which is part of a programme of adult education courses organised by the University of Sunderland Centre for Lifelong Learning, are available from Clayport Library on 0191-386 4003.
