POLICE hunting thugs who tied up an elderly man in his own home before beating him and stealing guns and cash have released three men on bail.

Officers arrested the men as they sought masked intruders who broke into the isolated farmhouse at Boltby, near Thirsk.

The intruders tied up the 70-year-old homeowner at 11pm on Saturday, February 21, at his house on the edge of the North York Moors National Park.

The pensioner was severely beaten and left tied to the chair where he was found at 9.35am the next day.

The burglars made off in their victim’s car with a haul of stolen goods including two shotguns, two rifles and a stash of money.

The victim was treated in the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton.

Police arrested a 38-year-old man from Selby, near York, and two others aged 33 and 39 from South Yorkshire, in connection with the raid.
