GIRL Guides locally have learnt about the lives of youngsters from poor countries as the movement nationally looks to mark 100-years in 2010.
Northallerton and District Brownies, guides and senior section members have supported Plan UK’s Because I am a girl project.
The scheme saw youngsters from the Northallerton branch learn about the lives of girls in Liberia, one of Africa’s developing countries.
It touched on topics such as why these youngsters tended to miss out on things like education.
The Northallerton group has been challenged to take photos to show what their own lives are like living in the UK.
They are also using the pictures to try and show how unfair the lives are of the youngsters in the poorer countries.
An exhibition of the photos will be put on later in the year to help raise funds to support the work of Plan UK in Liberia.
The Plan UK scheme is one of the projects being used by Girlguiding UK’s as it looks to mark its centenary next year.
