YOUNGSTERS can search for hidden treasure helped by a host of strange characters in the grounds of a stately home.

Newby Hall, near to Ripon, is playing host to an Easter weekend woodland adventure with the help of Animundi.

Costumed characters drawn from Animundi’s ranks will both help and hinder seekers of the Newby Treasure on Sunday, 12, and Monday, 13, April.

They will be placed along a woodland trail as families try to discover clues to the whereabouts on how to open a magical dispensing machine.

Once the machine has been activated youngsters can claim a golden Willy Wonka chocolate bar from it.

Some of the bars contain a winning season ticket for visits to Newby Hall.

There are also other craft activities taking place on the days including plant pot painting, postcard making and a workshop with York artist Ed Kluz.

Younger visitors can ride the estate’s miniature railway along with the Easter Bunny and then be entertained by Mr Dingy Dong the Magician.

The fun starts at 11am on both day with normal entry prices charged to visitors.
