A TEACHER has quit his job after being suspended over misconduct allegations.

A concerned parent complained in February about the conduct of the teacher at High Tunstall College of Science, in Hartlepool.

Bosses at the school launched an internal investigation and on Monday they accepted his resignation.

Cleveland Police had been contacted about the incident but ruled there was no criminal case and referred it back to the school for an internal investigation.

The identity of the teacher has not been revealed A spokesman for High Tunstall College of Science said: "Following a complaint from a parent expressing concern over the conduct of a member of staff at High Tunstall College of Science, an internal investigation was undertaken and completed.

"The teacher has subsequently submitted his resignation which has been accepted."

A spokeswoman for the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) said: "He has resigned with immediate effect. ATL supports its members in whatever way is needed if they have got an issue within a school.

"If someone wants to leave a school for whatever reason it depends on what they then want to do and we will take guidance from what they want."

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: "Police were contacted by a parent of a child at High Tunstall College of Science with a complaint against a member of staff.

"Officers completed their investigation into this complaint and the matter was referred back to the college."
