A REPORTER from The Northern Echo is to run the London Marathon to raise money for a hospital in Zambia.
Mark Tallentire, who works at the Echo’s Durham office, will run the 26.2 miles in aid of St Francis Hospital, in Katete, Zambia.
Mr Tallentire, 24, said: “Having spent seven months working as a missionary volunteer in Zambia in 2006, I know how much our support is needed and appreciated.
“I also know that, because the money is being delivered through the charity USPG Anglicans in World Mission, it will be used in the best way to support those who need it.”
The race takes place on Sunday, April 26. Mr Tallentire, who has not run a marathon before, is hoping to raise £1,000.
He said: “I’ve been in training for about five months now, so I’m looking forward to the big day.”
