THREE motorcyclists died in two separate accidents during a day of tragedy on the roads of North Yorkshire.

Two were killed when their Honda and Suzuki machines collided near Blubberhouses, in the Harrogate area.

The accident happened at 10.25am on Sunday at the crossroads of Askwith Moor Road and Moor Lane.

Both riders were pronounced dead at the scene and the pillion rider from the Honda suffered serious injuries and was flown to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance.

The second smash happened at around 3pm on the A682 between Gisburn and Long Preston.

A group of five riders were travelling towards Long Preston when one of them crashed and died after losing control of his Suzuki.

The dead rider was in his 40s and believed to be from Bolton. The road was closed until 7pm as police examined the scene of the smash.
