The fight to save Cockfield club from closing goes on. On Monday 30th March there was a ‘members only’ meeting held in the concert room, with an attendance in excess of 120 people.

On stage, there was representation from the CIU, CIU auditors and the business department of the Federation Brewery.

We now know that the extent of the debt liability, is in the region of £71,000, mainly owed to the inland revenue. Although this figure is a total amount that has been estimated, auditors will TRY to reduce it, in talks with the revenue. They do state, however, that due to the ‘lack’ of paperwork, going back to 2002, it might prove to be impossible.

On the plus side, it was reported that the administrators, had agreed to ‘back off’, and give the CIU time to form a rescue plan, including an ‘out of deeds’ valuation of the club field.

Another members meeting will be held in a couple of weeks, and as soon as I have a date for that, I will post it on this site.

Now for some positive news… Cockfield Club are, at last, putting a band on, on a Saturday night. To my mind, just the sort of thing to take the club forward.

On Saturday the 11th April, ‘The Emerald Thieves’ are on stage from 9-15. Tickets are £3.

This is an ideal opportunity for people who don’t normally go to the club, to come out and support it.

SEE YOU THERE!
