SIX new Special Constables have been sworn in at a ceremony at the magistrates’ court in Northallerton.

Laura Walters, Elizabeth Brassey, John Topham, Carole Starr, Michael Lawrenson and Rob Cook were each issued with their warrant cards at the ceremony.

They have successfully passed out from the initial training course consisting of one week’s intensive training at the Police Training College, followed by a further 11 weekend training days.

The ceremony was hosted by Assistant Chief Constable Sue Cross who said: "I never cease to be impressed by the quality of the Special Constables we attract and their many reasons for joining North Yorkshire Police as volunteers.

"Some join to fulfil a long held desire to be a police officer, some to give back something to their community and make a difference and some join to try the job to see if it is something they would like to do full time.

"Special Constables give their time to support regular staff and work in the heart of their communities and we very much value the contribution they make."

North Yorkshire Police currently employ 184 Special Constables and are keen to recruit more. Visit www.northyorkshire.police.uk or call 01609-789642 to find out more.
