A NORTH Yorkshire village will be taken over by scarecrows for an annual festival that was cancelled last year due to flooding.

The Muston Scarecrow Festival next week will see over 100 scarecrows go on show in the village.

The North Yorkshire coastal village, near Filey, hosts the free event from Saturday, July 26 until Sunday, August 3.

Godfrey Allanson, one of the organisers, said: “The village is literally taken over by scarecrows of many different sizes, shapes, colours and themes; you just never know where you might find one looking at you.

“It was a real disappointment that we had to cancel last year’s festival, and I am really delighted that this year’s event can go ahead as planned.

“The whole village takes real pride in this festival and all visitors are definitely in for a real treat.”

BBC Radio York presenter Elly Fiorentini will judge the scarecrows and the winner will get £50.

Visitors can win a cash prize by trying to guess the judges first, second and third best scarecrows.

There is also to be free displays in All Saint’s Church, Muston, based on an Around the World theme.

They can be viewed during the festival from 10.30am to 6pm apart from August 2 when it is from 2.30pm to 6pm.
