A man has been charged with attempted murder in Newcastle after a man was allegedly hit with a hammer.
Officers investigating the incident have appealed for information.
At around 9.55pm on Friday, November 29, it was reported a man had been assaulted outside Lemington Labour Club on Union Hall Road.
Officers attended where it was understood an offender had allegedly struck a man with a hammer several times in the doorway of the address, causing injuries to his head and body.
Those involved had already left the scene before police arrival.
An investigation was launched to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
A man was arrested in connection with the report. Lewis McMahon, 29, of Hexham Road, Throckley, was later charged with attempted murder and two counts of possessing an offensive weapon.
He appeared before magistrates in Newcastle on Monday, December 2, and was remanded in custody until his next appearance later this month.
Today (Tuesday) officers have appealed for any witnesses to come forward – as their enquiries continue.
