One person has been hospitalised after a crash on the A19 Northbound this morning, December 3, which has caused the road to be shut in both directions.

The collision happened at 6.30am, with motorists still experiencing delays of nearly four hours.

The A19 has been closed in both directions between the A1231 Sunderland and the A184 Roundabout.

Two ambulance crews were dispatched to the scene, where they treated one patient who was discharged at the scene.

A second patient was transported to Sunderland Royal Hospital for further treatment. Details of the patients' conditions have not been disclosed.

Motorists are still urged to find alternative routes as the roads remain closed after the incident caused delays during the morning rush hour, with traffic backing up in the surrounding areas.
