A busy Darlington road has been closed in both directions for three days.

The A67 Carmel Road, in Blackwell, is set to be closed off to motorists between The Spinney and A66 Bridge Road this weekend.

There will be no through traffic from today (Friday, November 29) along the busy stretch until midnight on Sunday, December 1, heading into December 2.

Traffic site Inrix does not provide much detail on the reason behind the closure other than it being for roadworks, with a statement saying: "No through traffic allowed due to roadworks on A67 Carmel Road South both ways between The Spinney and A66 Bridge Road."

Roadworks have been ongoing along Carmel Road South for several months, as works continue on the luxurious new Havelock Park development.

Traffic lights have been in position along the route since July 22 for pipeline and road works, with crews working to install a foul rising main, also known as a pressurised sewer.

The highway improvements are set to last until December 2.

As previously reported, construction is already well underway at the new Havelock Park estate, which is set to feature a range of four, five, and six-bedroom properties.

County Durham housebuilder Homes by Esh - which is a part of Esh Group - is in charge of the build, which has been described as a “haven of peace and tranquillity”.

In September, the latest drone shots of the development revealed how the site was taking shape, with house foundations in the ground and roads starting to take shape.
