A man is due to be sentenced at Teesside Crown Court today after being charged with manslaughter following the death of another man.

Carl James was injured in an incident at the Jack and Jill pub in Middlesbrough on May 11, 2024.

Curtis Tudor, of Welburn Grove, Ormesby is due to be sentenced at Teesside Crown Court this morning.

The 42-year-old, from Middlesbrough, was said to be in a critical condition in hospital on Saturday but sadly later passed away.

Officers described a large “violent incident” that broke out at the pub shortly after 6pm that evening with the area cordoned off into the night

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said at the time: “We can now name the man who sadly died following an incident at the Jack and Jill pub on Crossfell Road, Middlesbrough, as 42-year-old Carl James from Middlesbrough.

“Officers were called to the scene shortly before 6pm on Saturday 11th May and Carl was taken to hospital where he later passed away.

“Carl’s family have asked that their privacy be respected during this extremely difficult time and our thoughts remain with his family and friends.”
