A shop, that has become well known for its amazing Christmas windows, has revealed its final festive display before shutting up shop for good.

Earlier this month, customers queued for the window reveal at Tinkers Treasures, located on Fore Bondgate, Bishop Auckland.

The Tinkers Treasures window, which has been called "better than Fenwick's", features a snow-laden forest scene this year, complete with stags, squirrels, mushrooms, and fairy houses.

The displays, painstakingly put together by Laura Hendry and her mum Carol Knight, have entertained County Durham shoppers since they opened on Fore Bondgate in 2019.

The pair have been trading under the Tinkers Treasures name for even longer, selling homeware and ladies' fashion on at markets since 2010, but falling customer numbers have forced them to shut up shop.

They plan to wrap up business in the new year.

Speaking to the Northern Echo, Laura said that redevelopment in the town centre and bus station closure have driven down visitors to the street.

She added: "It's the low footfall that is making us close, to be honest. We have loved being in our home town, and we don't want to close, but we also want to go out on a high note.

"We do have wonderful supporters - and I cannot thank customers and the community enough for everything they have done for us. We are really, really grateful for it all.

"Please come down to Tinkers Treasures to say goodbye and enjoy the final display."

Stanhope Brass Band also played at the window reveal, with customers enjoying festive refreshments as they delighted in the display and did a spot of shopping.

Since announcing the store's closure, Laura said she and her mum had been "overwhelmed by support" from the County Durham community and their customers.

Laura and Carol are still unsure what their next steps are in the future, but are determined to add some festive cheer to Bishop Auckland this December.
