Drivers in and around County Durham will have a number of National Highways road closures to watch out for this weekend.
And one of them is expected to cause severe delays – with motorists facing a wait of at least 30 minutes.
The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that six closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:
• A1(M), from 8pm October 7 to 6pm December 6, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1M northbound and southbound, Lumley Thicks, Lane closures for survey works.
• A167, from 8pm August 5 to 6am December 14, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1M northbound and southbound, junction 59 Bradbury, carriageway closures and lane closure for lighting renewal.
• A1(M), from 6am October 3 to 6am December 20, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M northbound, junction 60 to junction 61, lane closure for vehicle safety fence works.
• A19, from 8pm July 22 to 6am December 21, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A19 north and southbound, A182 Easington to B1320 Peterlee Interchange, temporary 50 mph speed limit.
• A19, from 8pm September 18 2023 to 5.30pm February 25 2025, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A19 north and southbound, A182 Cold Hesledon Interchange, carriageway and lane closures for maintenance works.
• A66, from 8pm November 27 to 6am December 1, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A66 eastbound, Snow gates to Bowes, Lane closure for Vehicle safety fence repair.
And a further three closures will begin over the next two weeks:
• A66, from 8pm December 2 to 6am December 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A66 eastbound and wetbound, Snow Gates to Low Broats, Lane closure for inspection works.

• A66, from 8pm December 9 to 6pm December 10, severe delays (more than 30 minutes): A66 eastbound and westbound, Stainmore to Bowes, Lane closure and speed reduction for movement of a sensitive special abnormal load.
• A1(M), from 8pm December 9 to 6am December 13, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M northbound, junction 60 to junction 61, lane closures for safety barrier repair.
National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
