Fast food chain Wendy’s will open its second North East venue tomorrow (Thursday, November 28), days after signs were spotted to have gone up.
The American chain will open on the Bigg Market in Newcastle at 10.30am.
Boarding was seen to have gone up last week around the former KFC unit, which has stood empty for years next to club Filthy’s and diagonally opposite Greggs.
It came as plans for the brand to open 400 locations nationwide were revealed.
The opening on Thursday will see everyone in the queue before the ribbon is cut given a free ‘Dave’s single quarter pound beef burger’ or classic chicken burger.
Planning documents submitted to Newcastle City Council earlier this year reveal the site will be open from 7am until 11pm, and create around 40 jobs, 20 of which will be full time.
It will also have seating inside for 18 people.
Wendy’s opened their first North East store in Middlesbrough in May this year at Captain Cook Square.
The American-chain has 30 branches across the UK already, and more than 6,000 across the USA, with plans to open 400 here.

UK Managing Director Michael Clarke told The Sun last week: “With more than 30 restaurants already open, these plans reflect our ambition to expand to 400 locations nationwide, enabling more people to enjoy our food.
“We’re excited to welcome new team members and invite consumers to cheat on their usual and try Wendy’s."
On the menu are burgers, chicken burgers, wraps, salads and breakfasts. The chain first came to the UK in 2021 when it opened locations in Liverpool and Portsmouth.
