A man has appeared in court charged with four offences following an incident at Mainsgill Farmshop over the weekend.
Alan Lewis, 58, of Silvertree Walk, Goole, appeared at York Magistrates Court on Monday (November 25), charged with shop theft, two separate offices of driving while disqualified, two separate offences of driving without insurance, and dangerous driving.
During the short case, the 58-year-old was remanded in custody and will appear at York Crown Court on December 17 this year.
CCTV footage was released on Saturday (November 23) of the moment a shop worker from the farm shop tried to stop a suspected shoplifter from leaving the premises but the driver did not stop.
The clip, which was circulated widely, showed the worker closing a gate on a vehicle before the car was seen continuing up the slope to the A66 with the staff member on the bonnet.
The car continued driving with the staff member on the bonnet until it reached the A66 carriageway, where the footage shows the worker climbing off the front of the car.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "Over the weekend, you may seen some shocking video footage showing an incident at a farm shop near Richmond.
