A person has been hit by a train between Darlington and Newcastle.
Emergency services were called to the train line this evening (Monday, November 25) following an incident, first reported just before 7pm.
All lines between Newcastle and Darlington have been closed, with trains expected to be delayed by up to 60 minutes, cancelled, or revised.
Disruption is expected along the line until the end of the day.
LNER has issued advice for those travelling, saying passengers can use their ticket on the following train companies at no extra cost:
- Avanti West Coast between London Euston, Manchester and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh
- TransPennine Express between Manchester, Leeds and York / Newcastle.
- Northern between Carlisle and Newcastle and also between Leeds and York
National Rail said: "The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Durham and Newcastle. Whilst they carry out their work all lines between these stations will be closed.
"Trains between Darlington and Newcastle may be delayed by up to 60 minutes, cancelled or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day."

LNER said: "We are sad to report that due to a person being hit by a train between Newcastle and Darlington all lines are blocked. Train services running through these stations may be delayed.
"Ticket acceptance is in place with the following operators: Avanti between London Euston and Edinburgh, Northern between Newcastle and Carlisle, and Transpennine Express on any reasonable route."
