An elderly man has died following a crash on the A1 in Gateshead.
Police and paramedics were called to the major road near the Metrocentre around 10.15am on Monday (November 25) after a serious collision.
Two lanes of the route were closed after reports that a Scania heavy goods vehicle had struck a male pedestrian on the southbound route.
Northumbria Police has now confirmed that a man, aged in his 80s, has since died. His next of kin have been informed.
The force said it is believed the man could be linked to a white Ford Edge car that had been parked nearby, and added that the driver remained at the scene and is assisting with enquiries.
