Storm Bert has caused traffic chaos across the North East this morning and a number of events have has to be cancelled.

We have compiled a list of closures and event cancellations due to the snow.

Football matches have had to be delayed, museums have not opened and staff have been unable to get to work at businesses around the North East.

Here is a list of the closures and event cancellations that we know about:

  • Beamish Museum is closed today - "It’s with a heavy heart we’ve had to decide not to open the museum today due to the heavy snow (23/11/24).

    "Our staff have been very hard at work clearing snow over the past few hours, but with snow continuing to fall, we must put the safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers first, and we will be unable to open."

  • Tees Cottage Pumping Station event cancelled - "Unfortunately, the weather has beaten us, and our event must be cancelled.

    "We will still be here for the children to visit Santa and collect their presents. But for those who do not wish to venture out will arrange to refund their tickets."

  • Newton Aycliffe v Garforth Town postponed

  • Shildon v Northallerton Town postponed

  • Redcar illumination parade on Sunday has been cancelled

  • Bridlington Town v Consett FC postponed

  • Sirens Hair and Beauty Salon in Durham closed today

  • Chocolate Fayre in Barnard Castle closed

  • South Shields Market is cancelled due to heavy rain and wind
