The Met Office is predicting that Storm Bert will blast the North East with rain and snow this weekend.
There is a yellow weather warning in place for snow and rain across Darlington and the North East this weekend.
The forecaster is predicting extremely heavy rain and snow to fall across the region.
From 4am on Saturday, they predict there will be very heavy snow followed by a rapid thaw and torrential rain in the afternoon.
The weather warning is in place until 9am on Sunday.
What should you expect?
There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected
There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off
There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services
Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
There is a small chance of fast-flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life
There is a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel
A Met Office spokesperson said: "Heavy snow for some at first, with strong, gusty winds bringing a chance of blizzards across hills.
"Snow turning to rain by early afternoon, with a rapid thaw.
