A magical light trail set to take over a Newcastle park over the festive period will open this weekend.
Northern Lights will return to Leazes Park in the city from Friday (November 22) bringing a host of spectacular attractions set along a mile-long trail.
It drew huge crowds in its first year last Christmas, selling more than 100,000 tickets, and bosses are hoping to make it a unmissable event on the festive calendar as it returns with new installations.
Starting and ending at the southern entrance to the Victorian-created park, off Barrack Road, 15 new light displays will be dotted around the park with highlights to include a stunning floating lily illuminating the lake.
Guests can follow a trail of 2,000 flickering candles on 'Whispering Nights' and enjoy the "mesmerizing" 'Optical' - a field filled with fibre optic lights standing between the trees.
At the end of the trail a Christmas village hosts bars and street food vendors including burgers, Acropolis, Redheads Mac N Cheese, and Truly Madly Pizza.
Fish and chips will be available with a view over the lake light show and guests can toast marshmallows over fire pits along the route.
Sick kids at Newcastle hospitals have designed some displays for the second year running while others have been designed alongside the Alan Shearer Centre and Newcastle United Foundation.
Organiser Emma St. Croix said: “We’re beyond excited to be returning for our second year in Newcastle, and can’t wait for everyone to see all the work and creativity that has gone into this year’s installations.
