OUTSTANDING students leaving a North East secondary school have had their hard work recognised at an evening of achievement.
More than 200 former Year 11 pupils who graduated from Hummersknott Academy this summer returned to the school to celebrate their accomplishments.
Awards were presented to top achievers in each subject, for commitment to college activities and school life, plus a number of special awards donated by supporters of the school.
Principal James Keating, who will step down in December after ten years at the school, said: “This Year 11 class are an extraordinary group of young people. Tonight, we celebrate the effort and dedication they’ve put into themselves and into our school community throughout their time at Hummersknott.
“It’s been a pleasure for us as teachers and staff to have been part of their education journey. Like them, I’ll be leaving the school this year, but I’m incredibly proud to have had them as my last Year 11 class at Hummmersknott Academy.”
He was joined by incoming principal, Grant Sowerby, who previously served as head of Bishop Barrington Academy. Both schools are part of the Advance Learning Partnership education trust.
Mr Sowerby said: “This evening has been a wonderful introduction to Hummersknott Academy, and my only regret is that I’m joining the school just as these fantastic young achievers are leaving it. I wish them every success in the next steps they take.”
