Middlesbrough Council and Crow Leisure Group have confirmed that Middlesbrough on Ice will not be returning in 2024.
The event took place in Centre Square both during the 2022 and 2023 festive periods. The 2022 event was launched at the Middlesbrough Christmas lights switch on in November, where hundreds gathered for live performances and a firework display.
As well as a number of children’s fairground rides, there was a huge variety of festive stalls ranging from gravy-dripping Yorkshire pudding wraps to American-style s’mores with toasty marshmallows, as well as Santa Claus meet and greets.
Although the event proved popular in 2022, organisers were left “devastated” after they were forced to close the event just days before Christmas. At the time, they said it was due to technical and electrical issues “beyond our control” and said “with a heavy heart” that the event would no longer go forward.
While the event made a return last year, Middlesbrough Council confirmed that there were “no plans for Middlesbrough on Ice to return to Centre Square this year”.
Kennedy Crow, Director of Crow Leisure Group said: “Unfortunately we couldn’t make it work this year however plans are already underway to come back bigger and better with a brand new location, which will include a lot more alongside the ice rink, it’s something we are very excited about!”
She added: “We are hosting an indoor Christmas event this year brand new to the Yorkshire event centre in Harrogate ‘Santa’s Christmas Funland’ should the locals not want to miss out!”
