An animal charity has launched its first Animal Kindness awards with nominations now open for people in the North East.
RSPCA Sunderland, Hartlepool, and South Tyneside are calling on the community to nominate individuals who have shown exceptional compassion and care for animals.
The award will be presented at the charity's Christmas Ball fundraiser on December 7.
Mel Hunter and Allison West, organisers of the event, said: "We want to celebrate the wonderful people in our community who make a real difference for animals in need.
"This award is our way of recognising and honouring those who embody the spirit of kindness and compassion."
RSPCA is keen to recognise those who have made a difference in the lives of animals through volunteer work, rescue efforts, fostering, or other forms of selfless support.
Up to 10 shortlisted nominees will be selected from the entries and invited as honoured guests to the Christmas Ball, where the overall winner will be announced.
The shortlist will be drawn on November 29, and nominees will be contacted shortly after with a personal invitation to the event.
To submit a nomination, supporters are asked to visit the charity’s website, www.rspca-sunderland.org.uk/general-1, and to follow RSPCA Sunderland’s Facebook page for updates and event details.
Nominations can be submitted through the website and must include information about why the nominee deserves this recognition.
The Animal Kindness Award will add a special highlight to the Christmas Ball fundraiser, a local celebration that raises vital funds to support pet food banks, affordable veterinary clinics, and essential animal welfare initiatives in collaboration with the National Society.
Community members and local businesses are invited to be part of this joyous occasion, as the Christmas Ball not only celebrates kindness but also furthers RSPCA Sunderland, Hartlepool, and South Tyneside’s mission to support animals in need.
