A pensioner has been fined after a traffic camera on the A1(M) recorded them driving at a speed above the 70mph limit.
Kenneth Brian Dargue Beattie, 71, of Tranwell Court, Morpeth, Northumberland, was found guilty of a speeding offence at Peterlee Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.

The court heard that on May 1, 2024, Beattie was caught driving his Land Rover over the 70 miles per hour speed limit on the A1(M) between junctions J61 Bowburn and J62 Carrville.

Beattie was fined £220, with an additional victim surcharge of £88 and court costs of £90, bringing his total to £398, which must be paid by December 10, 2024.
His driving record was endorsed with three penalty points.
The magistrates noted the seriousness of the offence, reminding all motorists of the importance of adhering to speed limits for road safety.
