A drunken man who dropped his trousers and performed a lewd act in a busy family orientated pub landed himself in court.

Jordan Sinclair was recreating an online video when his shocking behaviour caught the attention of staff and they tried to eject him from the premises.

The 32-year-old reacted angrily when he was confronted and resorted to assaulting staff as he was escorted out of The Swan public house in Billingham.

Teesside Crown Court heard how Sinclair was facing a sexual offence of exposure before it was changed to the lesser charge of outraging public decency.

Recorder Andrew Latimer described the incident as ‘disgraceful’ after hearing that Sinclair’s behaviour had taken place in a busy pub.

He said: “You saw something on your phone and thought it would be amusing to drop your trousers and expose yourself in front of other customers.

“I’m afraid I have had to watch the video - you were standing relatively close to other customers.

“There were no children present at the time, had there been that would have been a serious aggravating factor.

“After that conduct by you, which was disgraceful and there was no excuse, even after a drink and even if you thought it was amusing, the bar staff had every right to ask you to leave.

“You showed complete contempt to them by exposing yourself again to them and were verbally abusive towards them.

“Staff shouldn’t have to put up with that.”

Annelise Haugstad, prosecuting, said three staff were assaulted or injured when they attempted to eject Sinclair and his friend from the premises.

“The incident was captured on the pub’s CCTV where he exposed his penis and the scuffle that he became involved in,” she said.

“The defendant had been exposing himself in a group of friends, the staff walked towards him and he dropped his trousers for a second time and is described as ‘helicoptering’ his penis.”

The court accepted that there were no sexual connotations about the defendant’s behaviour.

Sinclair, of York Crescent, Billingham, pleaded guilty to outraging public decency and a public order offence for the violent behaviour inside the pub.

Gary Wood, mitigating, said the father-of-two had been left embarrassed and ashamed by his outrageous behaviour on April 4 this year.

He said: “He was being foolish, trying to amuse his friends. It was very poor judgement and very poor reaction to a legitimate request to leave the pub.

“He has expressed genuine remorse. He is extremely remorseful, ashamed and embarrassed by his behaviour.”

Sinclair was made subject of a 12-month community order with 100 hours of unpaid work attached and ordered to make a contribution to court costs.
