An investigation into a serious crash in County Durham is continuing as the road remains closed, police have confirmed.
Emergency services were called to Newgate Street in Bishop Auckland at about 10.20am on Wednesday (November 13), following reports of a crash on the stretch of road.
Police, fire engines, ambulances, and an air ambulance all attended the scene.
Durham Police has said that the road will be closed for 'several hours' to allow the emergency services to work at the scene.
Specialist officers from the police force have been investigating at the scene, while a bus, believed to have been involved in the incident, cleared away from the site.
Images from the scene show a cordon still in place and road-closed signs on Newgate Street.
The North East Ambulance Service has confirmed that it sent multiple vehicles to the scene, including an air ambulance.
They confirmed that one person has been taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.
A NEAS spokesperson said: “We received a call at 10.20am this morning (Wednesday 13 November) to reports of a road traffic incident on Newgate Street in Bishop Auckland.
"We dispatched an ambulance crew, a rapid response paramedic, and a clinical team leader, and received support from our colleagues at the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Charity and North East Immediate Care.
"One patient was transported to James Cook hospital by road for further treatment.”
Durham Police has warned drivers and pedestrians about a diversion route.
A spokesperson for Durham Police said: "We are currently dealing with a serious road traffic collision in Newgate Street, Bishop Auckland.
"Colleagues from the North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and County Durham & Darlington Fire & Rescue Service are also on scene.

"The road is expected to be closed for several hours between Bob Hardisty Drive and Newgate Street.
"Both drivers and pedestrians are asked to find an alternative route."
A spokesperson for County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service added: “At 10.22am today (Wednesday), we received a report of a collision on Newgate Street, Bishop Auckland.
“Two crews attended to assist emergency service colleagues and left the scene before 11.30am.”
