A popular fried chicken chain - renowned for its "fantastic" wings - is set to open in Newcastle.

Wingstop will soon be bringing its chicken tenders, burgers, loaded fries, and platters to the Eldon Square shopping complex in the city centre.

New green signs were recently erected around the former George’s Great British Kitchen restaurant teasing the new restaurant, saying: "We run the wing game."

This will mark the firm's second location in the North East, having previously launched in the Gateshead Metrocentre back in 2022, in the upper Yellow Mall.

The Texas chain - which first arrived in the UK in 2018 - also now has a string of locations across Manchester, London, Leeds, and more.

Details regarding when the new restaurant will open remain unknown at this time.

Wingstop first started as a buffalo-style chicken wing restaurant in Garland, Texas, before it soared to fast-food stardom, opening thousands of venues across the globe.

The chain is known for not only its chicken but its variety of flavours and heat scale - similar to Nando's - with spices including the Louisiana rub, the garlic parmesan, the mango habanero or, on the hottest end of the spectrum, the atomic.

The news comes just months after Wingstop announced it would be opening six more shops this year in the likes of Crawley, Ealing, Manchester, Lakeside, Whitechapel and Walthamstow.

Positioned as a premium alternative to KFC - and loved by stars including Stormzy - the firm is franchised in the UK by Lemon Pepper Holdings.
