A new fish and chip shop has opened on a County Durham high street after the business enjoyed a grand opening that saw customers pile into the region's newest venue. 

High Fry Fish and Chips, based on High Street South in Langley Moor, Durham, welcomed its first customers on Monday (November 11). 

During its first day of business, staff at High Fry made the occasion special with balloons along the window and door of the new venue, while also showing off its new fresh and sleek look.

Posting on its social media on Monday, High Fry said: "We're open today from 11:30am. Kick off your day with us—come enjoy some delicious fish & chips at our brand-new shop. Whether it’s lunch or a snack, we’re here and ready to serve. See you soon."

The opening hours of the fish and chips shop are Monday - Saturday 11.30am until 2pm and 5.30pm until 9pm, while closing on Sunday.

The opening of this new County Durham fish and chip shop marks a great month for chippes in the region, as Yarm Road Fish and Chips in Darlington was named in the final 20 chippies hoping to be crowned Takeaway of the Year at the National Fish & Chip Awards 2024.

The remaining businesses have beaten 20 others on the shortlist by impressing the panel of fish and chip experts who have been assessing the takeaways.

The business owners have shown excellence in the areas of industry and product expertise, environmental and sustainable business methods, employer accountability, and of course providing high-quality food, to name a few of the judging criteria.
