Durham County Council has won a national award for its outstanding apprenticeships scheme.
The council's HR and employee services team was named the winner in the 'Back Office Heroes' category at the Local Government Chronicle Workforce Awards, which highlight achievements in local government.
Durham's award-winning 'Grow Your Own' apprenticeship programme aims to address current and future skills needs by expanding apprenticeship opportunities within the council and across the country.
The award was presented by comedian and Britain's Got Talent finalist Daliso Chaponda.
The programme was also shortlisted in two other award categories - the 'best next generation employer' and the 'workforce innovator.'
The apprenticeship programme is an important part of the council's approach to addressing current and future skills needs.
By increasing the range and number of apprenticeship opportunities, the scheme aims to attract and retain a skilled workforce both within the council and across the country.
