A devastated Durham mum has told how she thought her teen daughter was dead after she was “wiped out” by a paraglider in Turkey.
Lyndsey Logan was enjoying a family holiday in the tourist hotspot of Oludeniz with her two children Megan, 19, and Lily, 15, when they were involved in a freak accident.
Just hours before the Chester-le-Street family were due to fly home on Friday (November 8), Lyndsey's daughters were reportedly struck by a paraglider, leaving Lily with serious injuries.
The teen was raced to the Letoon Private Hospital where it was discovered that she had a “possible broken back, a bleed on the brain, broken ribs, and a broken jaw”.
Lyndsey said Lily also had to have stitches on her eye, chin, and tongue, and that her daughter’s tongue had been “ripped apart”.
Now, the family are stuck in Turkey, facing a £45,000 medical bill - and have launched a desperate fundraiser to help pay for Lily’s medical bills.
Lyndsey, 39, told The Northern Echo: “It happened on Friday at 1pm. We were just having some food at a restaurant and I just remember eating when a person came from the air.
“Lily went unconscious and then had a stroke. She woke up and she thought it had been a dream - it was just horrible. It just happened so fast, but I remember it. I thought she was dead.”
Megan was also caught up in the accident - but thankfully wasn’t as severely injured as her sister: “Megan was actually knocked unconscious too - when it happened [the paraglider] hit her too.”
Lyndsey, who works as a cleaner, said Megan has been taking some painkillers to help with her pain following the ordeal.
“I’ve had no sleep since I woke up on Friday morning,” the mum admitted.
Paramedics reportedly arrived on the scene within five minutes, before Lily was taken to hospital.
Lyndsey said that doctors initially told the family that Lily’s head had no damage - but then later the following day found out she would need a back and chin operation.
'Our lives have been ripped apart'
A GoFundMe page was launched to help the family raise funds to pay for the medical expenses, saying her family is “doing their best to get the funds together” but saying it is “impossible”.
Lyndsey admitted that the medical bills were so high due to the family not having insurance, which has made the situation “a lot worse”.
The fundraiser has so far raised an impressive £9,038 after swathes of generous donors chipped in to help the family as they “beg for help”.

Lyndsey said: “Please donate anything possible. I just want to get our girl home safe and well. I’ll never get this day out of my head, seeing her poor face thinking she was dead.
“We can’t get her better without your help.”
