Containers have been delivered and slotted into place as excitement builds for the new STACK development in Middlesbrough.
The food and drink container village is set to open in a matter of weeks in the town centre at the undercroft of the A66 flyover, where it meets Exchange Square.
The project, first announced in 2022, has seen several delays due to essential works on the bridge - but The Danieli group confirmed in September that the end was in sight, announcing plans to be completed by Christmas.
Now, new pictures have offered a fresh look at the transformed space underneath the A66, where a string of dark grey shipping containers are now in place.
While the images do show work taking place on top of the containers, STACK confirmed online this week that the new Middlesbrough location will be one level only.
Once open, Middlesbrough STACK will be home to a central plaza made up of 25 shipping containers, with six food stalls, three bars, and a stage for live entertainment.
Applications were opened earlier this year for food stalls at the complex, which is set to be in place in the town for three years. The site will include STACK’s own food brands Holy Duck and pizza emporium ZZA.
As previously reported, CEO Neill Winch confirmed in August that Middlesbrough’s STACK would be the next to open following the launch of the new fan zone at St James’ Park.
The news came after several delays with the opening dates for the Teesside site, with openings initially planned for Easter 2023 and then spring 2024.
This week on Facebook, STACK said: "All of our containers have been delivered and I think you’d agree that the difference within two weeks is vast.
"Keep an eye on our socials as our traders will be announced soon and for that all important opening date. Boro, we can’t wait to give you a big STACK welcome."
Middlesbrough Mayor, Chris Cooke, previously said: “It’s great news that work is starting on the STACK site.”

“STACK will be a great addition to Middlesbrough and will complement the many brilliant independent businesses in our town centre.”
Cllr Theo Furness, executive member for regeneration added: “I was really encouraged by what I saw on my visit to STACK in Seaburn and I’m confident that we can do it even better here in Middlesbrough.
“STACK’s knowledge and expertise combined with our brilliant local businesses will bring thousands of visitors to our town centre, supporting jobs and our local economy.”
