Cafe Spice, on Clark’s Yard in Darlington, has been nominated for The Northern Echo's best curry house competition.
The popular Indian restaurant, which opened in 2008, is managed by owner and chef Brian Mohan Miah, who ensures that every dish out the kitchen is a “work of art”.
It prides itself on allowing customers to “indulge in the rich heritage of Bengali Indian cuisine” - and continues to be popular 16 years after opening the doors.
Offering both options to dine in and takeaway, Cafe Spice boasts all the classic Indian dishes from Bhunas and Saags to Baltis and Biryanis, with a wide range of spice intensities.
It’s also not a stranger to winning awards - having previously bagged the Bangladesh Caterers Association's (BCA) Best Indian Restaurant North East in 2014, 2016 and 2019 as well as chef Miah being named as BCA's chef of the year in 2017.
This may come as no surprise to customers, with the venue boasting a 4.3 star rating on Google and having rave reviews across online platforms.
One happy customer said: “What an absolute gem of a curry house Cafe Spice is. Great online booking system made it easy to get a table sorted. Food was fabulous, good size portions, nicely presented and flavoursome.”
Another added: “Absolutely fantastic. We had a lovely meal. Very tasty and flavoursome. Service was brilliant and staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend it and we will definitely go back again.”
The restaurant has also previously hit the headlines when it delivered free curries to care home workers during the Covid lockdown, a move that was praise by the community.
And it’s not just Darlington residents who are fans either, with former Top Gear star James May frequenting the restaurant on his visits to the town.
Brian Mohan Miah previously told The Northern Echo how the business puts “blood, sweat, and tears” into the family-run restaurant, and has spent “considerable amounts of effort” when building relationships with his loyal customers.
