A Durham school is closer to getting new signage after approval by Durham County Council.
Belmont Church of England Infant School, on Buckinghamshire Road, will display eight non-illuminated signs, following the green light being given by Durham County Council for the plans.
The signs, in a combination of purple and green backgrounds with white text, come in two varieties: fascia and totem.
Featuring aluminium lettering and logos, the signs will be placed at different heights, with the largest reaching 10.65 metres in width.
The totem signs, double-sided aluminium panels standing up to 2.7 metres, will be located at pedestrian entrances and delivery areas.

Proposed by Durham County Council, the Department for Education, and Kier, with DPP acting as agents, the signs are set to be displayed for a period of five years, from November 8, 2024, to November 8, 2029.
According to planning documents, neighbours or the local community were not consulted about the signage, although the site is visible from public paths.
The approval letter from Durham County Council on November 4 indicates there were no objections to the proposal.
However, the approval comes with conditions requiring the formal submission of certain details before the development begins, which must be handled through the council's planning portal.
