Schoolchildren have named seven new snow gritters that will keep Teesside roads safe this winter.

It means Stockton Borough Council's gritters are now called Gritty Gritty Bang Bang, Salt ‘N’ Gritter, Stuart Grittle, Ice Queen, Snowy, Frosty, and Powcicle.

The hilarious and punny names were chosen after a competition that saw children from various schools across the borough submit their ideas.

Among the winners were Athena Metcalfe from The Links Primary, who named a gritter Salt ‘N’ Gritter, and Abigail Glen from Bewley Primary, with her suggestion of Gritty Gritty Bang Bang.

Athena and Abigail were given the opportunity to inspect their newly-named gritters alongside Cllr Clare Besford, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, and Cllr Lisa Evans, cabinet member for children and young people.
