Bengal Heritage, on Gladstone Street in Darlington, has been nominated for The Northern Echo's best curry house competition.

The "first-class" family-run restaurant has been going strong in town for an impressive 17 years, having first opened in 2007.

Serving authentic and traditional Indian and Bangladeshi dishes, the popular venue boasts everything from baltis to biryanis - and prides itself on being one of the "best places to order Indian food online in Darlington".

The restaurant is run by the Miah family, first created by Mohammed Sufi Miah, now 59.

His nephew Faisal Miah, 40, is now manager of Bengal Heritage and has worked there since it opened on Gladstone Street.

Also helping run the restaurant is Mohammed's brother Matab, now 57.

Faisal told The Northern Echo this week how the venue has been "going strong since day one" and remains a "very popular" spot in town.

The 40-year-old said: "It started off in 2007 and I have been there since the beginning.

"We've always got new customers coming in as well as regulars, who all enjoy their food. We get everyone from young people to the older generation.

"We've got a great team both out the back and in the front."

Bengal Heritage has rave reviews online with a 4.4 star rating on Google Reviews and praise from customers for the "excellent" value and "delicious" food.

One person said: "We ordered a set meal for two, and would order again.

"The meat was melt in your mouth beautiful, the flavours were amazing. It was plenty warm on arrival delivered with a friendly manner."
