Neighbourhood wardens were out in a County Durham town at the weekend dealing with youths throwing fireworks at members of the public.

There were a number of alcohol seizures in Stanley after multiple youths were found to be intoxicated.

Wardens and members of the public had fireworks thrown at them.

It prompted a reminder for people to stay safe and to try to attend organised events.

A Durham Neighbourhood Warden spokesperson said: "A number of alcohol seizures and anti-social behaviour forms have been submitted after multiple youths were found to be intoxicated and causing anti-social behaviour within Stanley Town Centre.

"Whilst some people may say 'everyone was young once' the aftermath of youths drinking alcohol includes some going into town centres and causing major anti-social behaviour which also resulted in our officers and surrounding members of the public having fireworks thrown towards them.

"Please remember to stay safe and attend organised events where possible."
