A man has been arrested and a passenger left with serious injuries after a car ploughed into the side of a family home in Darlington.
Police and paramedics were called to Stockton Road, in Great Burdon, on Friday (November 1) after a car crashed into a building shortly before 8.50pm.
Pictures from the aftermath showed how the home had been left open to the elements following the incident, with a fence being erected around the impact site and a pile of rubble.
Durham Constabulary has now confirmed that the passenger of the car suffered serious injuries, and was taken to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
Their current condition is not known.
The driver of the car, a 36-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.
He has since been released under investigation while further enquiries are carried out.
As previously reported, police, ambulances, and the fire service were all called to the scene on Friday evening, with the road being closed while 999 crews worked at the scene.
The following day, Lisa Wilson, 49, and Ian Burnside, 55, who were walking to their friend's at the time of the ordeal, spoke out about how they rushed to the scene to free those trapped in the car.
Lisa said: "We had just arranged to go and see our friends and were walking towards the home on the right-hand side of the road. We were about ten seconds walk away from the house.
"We then noticed the headlights of a car that just veered off the road and we just watched it hit the building.
