An arson probe has been launched after a blaze caused "extensive damage" to a derelict leisure centre in County Durham.
Emergency services were called to the Spectrum Leisure Centre on Hunwick Lane in Willington on Sunday (November 3) after a large fire broke out.
Four fire engines were sent to the scene, using an aerial platform to tackle the "fully developed" fire in the roof space of the building.
Now, Durham Constabulary has confirmed that an investigation has been launched following the fire, which is being treated as arson.
A force spokesperson said: "Police were called at 5.05pm yesterday (November 3) to a large fire at Spectrum Leisure Centre, in Willington.
"The blaze, which caused extensive damage to the building, is being treated as arson and an investigation has been launched."

County Durham and Darlington Fire & Rescue Service previously said: "We sent four fire appliances to the scene. Two from Bishop Auckland, one from Crook and one from Spennymoor including a water bowser and an aerial platform.
"Upon arrival, we discovered a fully developed fire in the roof space which was quickly extinguished due to the fact action of crews using four breathing apparatus.
"We still have two fire appliances on the scene now."
