Three people have been arrested after a police chase in Middlesbrough - which ended in a two-vehicle crash and left two people in hospital.

Officers pursued a Volkswagen Golf through the town on Sunday (November 3) at about 9.30pm after it failed to stop on Marton Road.

The police chase came to a head on Longford Street where it crashed into another car, with the three occupants fleeing on foot.

Pictures from the scene showed that a grey car had ploughed into a small brick wall, while another silver car had been left with a crumpled bonnet in the street.

Two people sustained minor injuries in the incident, which took place at the road's junction with Crescent Street, and were taken to the James Cook University Hospital for treatment.

The road was cordoned off just before 10pm, with eyewitnesses reporting ambulance crews and armed police both at the scene.

Officers chased the three people on foot, and recovered a police-style baton before arresting the trio - aged 14, 17, and 21 - in connection with the ordeal.
