The first pictures from a crash that left the side of a family home in Darlington decimated last night have emerged as a man remains in hospital.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash on Stockton Road, Great Burdon, shortly before 8.45pm on Friday (November 1) night.
The road was closed immediately after as police, the ambulance service, and fire brigade attended the scene.
Pictures have now emerged of both the aftermath of the crash itself and the damage sustained to the home, which has been blocked off as bricks lie across the pavement.
Neighbours nearby have now expressed their shock as they rushed out to help before calling the police.
One witness, who preferred not to be named, said: "All I heard was a thump. I thought - that's bad, someone must have a flat tyre. But the next thing, there was this almighty crash.
"I knew immediately that this was a big crash. I said quick, quick, there's been an accident. We ran out there.
"As we were out there others told us to ring 999 - the noise was just horrendous. We had a bad night's sleep - the emergency services were still here at midnight.
"We can't thank the emergency services enough. They were brilliant."
One person involved in the crash was rushed to hospital.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic incident on Stockton Road, Great Burdon, Darlington, shortly before 8.45 last night (Friday 1 November).
"We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and a duty officer. One patient was taken to James Cook Hospital."
Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service and Durham Constabulary have been contacted for more information.
