Fire crews spent three hours battling a lorry fire on the A66 this morning.
The lorry went up in flames shortly after 6.30am today (Friday, November 1) near the Thorpe Farm Centre, towards Greta Bridge, County Durham.
Two teams of firefighters spend about three hours at the height of rush hour trying to extinguish the blaze.
Pictures show flames tearing through the lorry as smoke rises above the treeline.
The Highways Agency managed traffic while the fire was put out and firefighters left shortly after 9.30am.
A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “We were called at 6.37am today (November 1) to a lorry fire on the A66 near Thorpe Farm Centre in Durham.

“Two fire engines from Darlington Fire Station and one from Bishop Auckland Fire Station were in attendance.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus spent around three hours tackling the fire using two hose reels and drag forks.
“Crews then left the scene at 9.39am.”
