During a recent inspection, a farm shop that supplies restaurants and other businesses with produce has been handed a one-star hygiene rating. 

Langthornes Buffalo Produce on Crawford Grange, Brompton Lane in Brompton, near Northallerton, was given a low rating by the Food Standards Agency in an inspection on September 19 this year. 

Following the inspection the venue was informed that major improvements were necessary.

Here’s what each food hygiene rating means:

0 - Urgent Improvement Necessary

1 - Major Improvement Necessary

2 - Some Improvement Necessary

3 - Hygiene Standards Generally Satisfactory

4 - Hygiene Standards Good

5 - Hygiene Standards Very Good

During its inspection, the farm shop, which says on its website "we supply our famous buffalo meat and burgers to both individuals and restaurants," was inspected for hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and buildings, and food safety management.

Inspections are carried out around the country at any business handling food.

In hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition of facilities and building categories, it was found that it was 'generally satisfactory' and managing food safety was ranked 'major improvement necessary'.
