A historic and popular Grade-II listed hotel and pub has been handed a one-star hygiene rating during a recent inspection.
The Black Lion on Finkle Street in Richmond was given a low rating by the Food Standards Agency in an inspection on September 16 this year.
Following the inspection the venue was informed that major improvements were necessary.
Here’s what each food hygiene rating means:
0 - Urgent Improvement Necessary
1 - Major Improvement Necessary
2 - Some Improvement Necessary
3 - Hygiene Standards Generally Satisfactory
4 - Hygiene Standards Good
5 - Hygiene Standards Very Good
During its inspection, the hotel and pub were inspected for hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and buildings, and management of food safety.

Inspections are carried out around the country at any business handling food.
In hygienic food handling it was found that major improvement was necessary and managing food safety was 'generally satisfactory'.
The venue was ranked 'Good' in the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building category.
