A lonely cat who has been in Middlesbrough rescue for more than six months is desperately hoping to find his forever home.

Three-year-old Toby arrived into RSPCA care via an inspector due to welfare concerns and since then has watched four-legged friends come and go as he waits patiently for his pawfect match.

The staff at RSPCA Great Ayton in Middlesbrough have been taking care of him and can’t understand why he hasn’t yet found his forever home.

Animal care assistant Sue Mines, who enjoys spending time with him in the cattery, said: “Toby is officially our long-stay resident in the cattery. Toby is a cheeky companionable chap, who although independent likes to be around people he is familiar with. He may be shy at first but once he settles in and gains confidence he will become more engaged with you, especially if treats are involved.

“Toby is an adventurous boy, who loves to explore, pounce, and chase after his favourite toys. Whether he is darting around the cattery or observing his surroundings, his free-spirited nature always shines through.”

Toby would like a home where he is the only cat and would prefer an adult household.

Sue added: "Toby is full of energy and loves to play.

"He would love lots of toys and an adopter with an understanding approach, who will allow Toby to do things his own way, when he wants to do it.

"He would need to remain indoors initially until he has fully settled into his new home, then would like to experience the outside world.

"We would be looking for an area that would be safe for him to explore."
