TWO of Newcastle's most famous institutions are joining forces ahead of Christmas, with Newcastle United opening a special 'pop-up' club shop in Fenwick's historic department store on Northumberland Street.

An official Newcastle United retail outlet will open on the store’s lower ground floor this Friday and remain open until Friday, January 31.

Fenwick has traded from the city-centre site for more than 140 years, with its famous Christmas window having become a Tyneside attraction in its own right, attracting millions of shoppers and visitors for more than half-a-century.

The pop-up club store continues Newcastle United's rapid retail expansion, following the opening of a new flagship stadium store which opened this week and the announcement of a soon-to-be-opened store at the Metrocentre.

Newcastle United's chief commercial officer, Peter Silverstone, said: "We are delighted to be welcomed into Fenwick's iconic Northumberland Store in this way.

"Both organisations have a shared history and affinity with the city, so it's a natural step for us to work together to provide even greater access to Newcastle United kits and gifts at Fenwick this Christmas.

"Our retail operations continue to grow as we look to service the incredible demand for official products.

"Visiting Fenwick is a Christmas tradition for so many people, so we know the pop-up store will be a popular addition and will complement our new flagship stadium store and Metrocentre store perfectly."

Leo Fenwick, strategic partnerships director at Fenwick, added: "Fenwick, founded in Newcastle, is the official luxury retail store partner of Newcastle United and as part of our partnership, we are delighted to offer our customers the opportunity to shop the latest Newcastle United kits and merchandise at our Newcastle flagship store.

"When shopping for product, Newcastle United fans or customers looking for the perfect Christmas gift, will be treated to Fenwick hospitality, making their shopping experience extra special."
