Middlesbrough council’s website has today been targeted by suspected online hackers.
The attack began this morning (Wednesday 30 October) and was quickly identified by the council’s IT department.
While the website has been temporarily taken offline, no data or services have been put at risk.
A Middlesbrough council spokesperson said: "Work is currently under way to ensure that the Council and its data remains protected against future attacks through strong cybersecurity measures, and it is hoped to have our website up and running shortly."

The council apologised for any inconvenience this may cause.
A spokesperson added: "We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and will provide you with a further update as soon as possible.
